End of The Line for The Subaru Legacy

Last week Subaru announced that the 2025 Legacy will be the last one. The manufacturer claimed that declining sales and the market’s preference for SUVs were some of the reasons for the removal of the Legacy from the company’s lineup.

Although when launched in 1994 the Outback was derived from the Legacy, till the 2010s the crossover SUV has become its own model in the Subaru lineup and it won’t suffer any interference from the Legacy discontinuation.

Our Top 5 Subaru Legacy models

It was a hard time choosing the top 5 among 7 generations and multiple trims of the Subaru Legacy, but the result is this:

Just a little observation: only sedan models were considered for the list.

5. 5th Gen Subaru Legacy 2.0GT DTI

Subaru Legacy 2.0GT DIT

I think this was the last really enthusiastic-driven grade of the Legacy. It was powered by the FA20 turbocharger engine, delivering 296 horsepower and a top speed of about 145 mph (233 km/h).

4. 3rd Gen Subaru Legacy Blitzen

Subaru Legacy Blitzen

The Blitzen trim was designed in collaboration with Porsche Design and was also equipped with some items from the Subaru’s STi division. The engine delivered 276 horsepower and a top speed of about 162 mph (260 km/h).

3. 3rd Gen Subaru Legacy RSK

Subaru Legacy RSK

RSK is the abbreviation for Rally Sports Kompression, and the name was given to the trim because of the twin-turbo EJ20 engine equipped in the car. Just like the Blitzen trim, the engine delivered 276 horsepower and a top speed of about 162 mph (260 km/h).

2. 1st Gen Subaru Legacy RS

Subaru Legacy RS Colin McRae

This model is simply incredible. The model itself is legendary, but the victory of the 1993 Rally New Zealand by the legend that is Colin McRae just pushes this trim to a higher level. The engine was the EJ20G equipped with a turbo. The outputs were 217 horsepower and about 145 mph (234 km/h) of top speed.

1. 4th Gen Subaru Legacy STi S402

Subaru Legacy STi S402

A limited edition, but with a huge impact on the 4th generation of the Legacy. The S402 is the sportiest trim in the Legacy lineup. Only 402 units were produced for the Japanese market and some of its features were the BBS wheels, Brembo brake discs, VVT, and a tuned ECU. The engine was the 2.5 EJ255 turbo that delivered 281 horsepower and about 167 mph (268 km/h) of top speed.

Unfortunately for all the Subaru enthusiasts, it’s the end of a long-running line and an amazing car that is the Legacy. The Subaru Legacy surely delivered emotion and caught, and still catches, the eyes of many people on the streets.

Feel free to leave any comments or thoughts about the Subaru Legacy’s end and have a nice day!
